WHO WE ARE
IDEA is a proactive advocacy group that provides education and resources on infill development to administration, the community, and the industry.

Over the past two years we have made big changes in the infill industry to push towards people-centered communities. To continue to grow and make changes we have decided to change our membership fee structure to align with the benefits we work hard to provide.

Big wins:

  • Received a commitment from the City to reduce permitting timelines for class A developments in exchange for the creation of a certified education program.

  • Received a commitment from the City and EPCOR to create a cost-sharing program for infrastructure relating to infill to reduce cost for infill development.

  • Updated the City of Edmonton Building Permit and Development Permit Checklist.

  • Created a commercial sub-committee within IDEA to focus on reducing barriers to commercial infill.

  • Persuaded the City to change the combo permit to separate development and building permits.

  • Pushed to allow Secondary Suites to be a permitted use in all small-scale housing styles.

  • Pushed Garden Suites to be a permitted use.

  • Helped reducing parking requirements.

  • Pushed to allow semi-detached and duplexes to be a permitted use in RF1 and RF2 zones.
